On March 31, CISS was honored to receive three distinguished guests, they are Ms. Nadia Scipio del Campo, Counsellor of the Canadian Embassy in China, Mr. GE Ning, Public Diplomacy Officer of the Canadian Embassy in China, and Ms. Fiona, Manager of the Canadian Trade Office in Shenyang.

As the only IB Continuum Word School in Liaoning, we were proud to show the distinguished guests around the beautiful campus environment and the hardware and software conditions of CISS. We also introduced to them the educational philosophy and achievements of CISS in recent years.

The guests were very concerned about the impact of the pandemic on school enrollment and academic quality over the past two years. We told them that during the past two years of the pandemic, foreign teachers have been living on campus, the school has set up an anti-epidemic team, and also provided free six-week summer camp for our students. Therefore, the number of students in 2020 increased by 1.5-fold instead of deceasing. The guests admired the school’s arrangement and the hard work of the teachers.

At the same time, we also introduced to the guests the current focus of the school, which is to make the school grow continuously. The philosophy of the school is to cultivate the sound personality of the students through social emotional learning (SEL), ensure the happiness, health, and safety of the students, and cultivate their respect for diversity equity, inclusiveness and justice. CISS warmly welcomes students of all nationalities, languages and backgrounds, and we ensure that all students are treated fairly.

The three guests met and communicated with foreign teachers at school to know about their experiences in China, the reasons and feelings for working in CISS. Then they met with student representatives to understand their knowledge about Canada, exchanged views on the environmental issues, and shared some important programs and activities of the Canadian Embassy. Later they played a short video of Canadian ice hockey for all MYP students and teachers in the lecture hall, making students know about the development history and popularity of ice hockey in Canada, praise the high level of Canadian ice hockey, and also feel the inclusiveness and diversity of sports, in spite of race, gender, and physical conditions, thus continuously challenge the limits of humanity. After the video, Counselor Nadia had friendly communication and interaction with the students.
